Delayed restart of Fencing

Now that we have moved to Level 0, over 18s can resume indoor Fencing. However, the ARC at Cally Uni is still being used as a COVID testing centre for the time being. We have been advised that it is likely to be September before the hall is available for sports.

GWEFC are actively looking for a new venue (at least for the Summer) and are in discussion with other Fencing Clubs about the sharing of facilities.

COVID-19

The ARC building will be closed from Tue 17 March - GWEFC training has been suspended until further notice.

Christmas Night In

Thursday 17th Dec 7:30pm onwards

Due to COVID restrictions, the annual GWEFC Christmas Night Out will be a little different. We will hold a virtual night out via Zoom.

The usual format will apply, drinking, eating and chatting.

All regular and irregular plus honoured guests are welcome.

Please send an email if you want an invite. The details of the Zoom call will be sent out on the day.

Caledonian University Update

As the more observant of you may have seen, Cally Uni has been in the news recently. They are in the process of converting the ARC building into a COVID Testing Centre. While this will be of benefit to the wider community, it will be the detriment of some other groups. In particular, GWEFC, since our training venue will now be unavailable to us until at least January 2021.

Christmas Holidays

As has become tradition, we will be holding a team competition on the last night before the Christmas Holidays. This will be on Thursday 12th December at 7pm.

On Thursday 19th December, we will have our Christmas Party at the Atholl Arms starting around 7pm - all welcome whenever you can make it. They serve food until 9pm.

We will start back on Thursday 9th January 2020.

Fencing all Summer

As usual, the club will be running our normal training sessions all Summer - rain or shine.

The class runs from 7 to 9:30pm every Thursday.

Holiday Period

Our last night training before the Holidays will be Thursday 13th December. We will start back on Thursday 3rd January 2019.

We will have a Christmas night out at the Atholl Arms at 7pm on Thursday 20th December. They have their feastive food menu available.

Beginners Night - 4th Oct

Give us a couple of hours of your time and we will teach you how to fence. Bring a friend - it's better to learn together. There is no charge for this course. The class will run from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday 4th October.

All specialist equipment will be supplied by the club - this will be worn over your own clothes. Wear clothes you will be comfortable working out in - but no shorts due to safety concerns. You need to bring some indoor sports shoes with non-marking soles. The building has changing rooms and showers available.

New coach

We are delighted to welcome Calum de Sainte Croix as the new head coach of GWEFC - he is the son of Graeme (aka Dusty) who was our founding coach (some years ago).

Calum brings a wealth of coaching and competitive fencing experience - also, refereeing, armoury, competition organisation, film extra-ing.

Farewell Mark

Tonight will be Mark’s last night coaching at GWEFC - he is planning on more time on the other type of piste.

We look forward to more Facebook updates from his skiing and biking adventures. Also, expect to see him back at GWEFC as a fencer.
